Keyword Research is exactly that, research about keywords. We want to find out which keywords will attract the search engines and take us to the top or first page for the greatest exposure.
Where many business owners fail is that they try to rank for one word keywords and ten million other businesses are trying to rank for the same one. For instance, the word "carpet cleaning" or "makeup".
How can we do simple research on keywords?
If you go to Google right now and search for the words "carpet cleaning", you will bring up about 30,900,000 results in (0.60 seconds).
How do we rank with that much competition?
Answer is, you don't... I mean, it is possible, but you'll probably have to have a million dollars to do so. (kidding, prob not that much, but close)
How do we solve this problem?
Well, let me show you. Go back to your Google search page. Type in, "carpet cleaning in redlands ca". Now look at your results. It shows, 52,300 results in (.46 seconds). Big difference isn't it? The latter is referred to as a long tail keyword. You might be thinking, "Wow, 52,300 is still a high number."
How can I get to the top?
Easy peasy! The majority of that number is gobblety gook or filler. If you have a site with good content, it will move up, I promise you. Keep in mind though that this method takes a little time to rank and patience is needed, but with the right service, you can watch it move up in the ranks. Google takes a little longer than Yahoo or Bing because everyone uses Google. You could rank first page on Yahoo or Bing right away and not get any leads because it's rare that people use those search engines these days.
